The opportunity

Student Services and Employability puts student success at the heart of everything that we do, from supporting students in their studies to preparing them for the future. The team covers: Wellbeing & Disability, Learning Support, Student Advice, Careers, Placements, Employer Engagement, and GO Wales, supported by the Operations Team. Working in a motivated, friendly and trusting environment we strive to deliver high quality student centric services. We help students at Cardiff Metropolitan University feel supported to succeed and prepared for their next steps.

You will be part of a small team delivering the Welsh Government (WG) funded GO Wales: Graduate Support Project at Cardiff Metropolitan University. You will work with the Project Co-ordinator, Project Assistant and other internal departments to promote and deliver the programme to recent graduates who require higher levels of employability support, such as, but not limited to, those with disabilities, from minority ethnic backgrounds, from low participation neighbourhoods and who are unemployed or in a low-skilled role. 

You will provide a range of career interventions to graduates, supporting progression through the programme. You will also support the Project Co-ordinator with the sourcing of internship opportunities and help graduates to secure relevant work experience opportunities.

What you’ll do – key duties

• To promote the GO Wales: Graduate Support Project to prospective graduates and support with the registration and onboarding of those eligible.
• To support graduates with a variety of employability-related subjects via career appointments, helping them to develop their employability skills and progress through the phases of the programme.
• To develop and deliver small group employability-related workshops / webinars, on subjects such as CV writing, using social media, application forms and job-searching techniques
• To work in collaboration with other departments such as the GO Wales and Careers Consultancy teams and identify opportunities for cross-referrals to relevant events and activities
• To support the Project Co-ordinator with the development of career and employability e-learning resources
• To maintain contact with graduates on the programme in a coaching/mentoring capacity in order to sustain their engagement and ensure they gain maximum benefit.
• To work with the Employer Services and GO Wales Teams to identify target employers for internships and source opportunities.
• To develop and maintain own knowledge of local, regional and national labour markets and stay up-to-date with other job support schemes.

What you’ll bring – essential experience & strengths

• Employment in a role providing support to individuals relating to recruitment activities e.g. careers advisory, coaching, HR, graduate recruitment etc.

• Experience in providing effective career interventions to a range of clients in both a 1:1 setting and small groups

• Verbal and written communication skills – able to liaise and negotiate confidently with colleagues and clients including academic staff, employers and graduates

• Able to demonstrate sensitivity and empathy towards clients and colleagues at all times

• Able to plan and organise own work to meet required targets and deadlines.

• Able to follow policies and processes and demonstrate good administration skills

• A positive mind-set with a can-do approach to problem-solving

• Able to think creatively, be innovative and work well off own initiative

• Computer literate and competent in use of full Microsoft Office suite.
