Welsh University of the Year 2021 by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.
Our performance in this year’s Guide is exceptional. Our University was the biggest riser in Wales, and the third biggest in the UK, placing us in the UK top 40 for student satisfaction with teaching quality and the wider student experience.
We are very pleased that our strong performance has resulted in the University attracting high numbers of well qualified students and we are now seeking additional staff in both our academic schools and professional services departments.
The Opportunity
Cardiff School of Technologies is based on the Llandaff Campus and was launched in 2018. This new School, which focuses on computer and data science, cyber security, robotics and electronic engineering, already has around 900 students and has developed a thriving research community. The School ethos is to develop students in terms of their academic skills and knowledge and to give students an opportunity to develop their personal and professional skills, recognising the multi-disciplinary nature of their subject within an international context so that on graduating, they are rounded individuals with the competencies needed for industry and further study. Programmes and modules are developed with stakeholders from industry, current research and students, ensuring a rounded curriculum. As the School continues to grow it will build on existing partnerships with industry and add to its existing offering of degree apprenticeships like that in data analytics delivered jointly with the Office for National Statistics.
Internationalisation plays a large part in the student experience as the School recognises that Computing and Engineering as disciplines, provide students an opportunity to develop their careers internationally, so great effort is put into expanding student horizons. Students are offered the opportunity to attend international weeks that have been developed with partner universities. Responding to student demand and employer need, the School has been designed to support the growing number of digital and technology companies clustering in the Cardiff Capital Region and is key to developing the University’s already strong position as a top 12 UK HEI for graduate start-ups and is proud of its record in graduate employability.
