The opportunity
Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences is a recognised centre of excellence in the UK and has established a national and international reputation for the quality of its academic and research work in the areas of sport and health sciences. Based across the Cyncoed and Llandaff campuses, we provide a broad range of vocationally focused academic programmes and pride ourselves on good student feedback and excellent graduate employability. Many of our programmes are professionally accredited to meet the requirements of the sport and healthcare professions and we engage closely with industry to provide consultancy services and professional development programmes. Our School also delivers a thriving research culture, with over 100 PhD students across a variety of disciplines. The wellbeing of our staff, students and our local community underpins everything we do as we continue to add value through our teaching, innovation and research.
We seek to appoint a Senior Research Assistant to support and undertake an evaluation research project for School of Hard Knocks (Cymru). The project will focus on analysing and evaluating the impact of ‘The Ahead of the Game programme’. This is a three-year funded programme run by School of Hard Knocks. It consists of 12 8-week adult programmes in Cardiff and Blaenau Gwent in South Wales. The courses focus on improving the physical and mental health of the participants through physical fitness sessions (usually rugby), team formation and activities, and group and individual therapeutic sessions.
Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator, the Senior Research Assistant will take the lead in contacting key stakeholders, data collection and the preparation and analysis and presenting data for analysis and developing appropriate reports for external dissemination.
The Senior Research Assistant will support the Principal Investigator and the project team in a variety of ways. These will principally include qualitative or quantitative data collection and analysis and the processes associated with these activities (e.g., but not limited to ethics application, report writing).

A good honours degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant area of Sport or Health Sciences (psychology, mental health, wellbeing, physical activity)
