Cardiff Metropolitan University is a thriving, global, modern university. It is enjoying a highly successful period of growth and diversification, with increased student recruitment and 50% higher turnover in the past five years, to over £150m this year and forecast at over £158m for 2023/2024.
In 2020, the University was named The Sunday Times ‘Welsh University of the Year 2021’; in 2021 it became The Times Higher Education ‘UK and Ireland University of the Year 2022’; and in 2022 it was ranked the top university in the UK in the People and Planet Green League. The University is also finalising its Campus 2030 masterplan, with ambitions to invest over £150m in the estate.
Cardiff Met is now seeking a President and Vice-Chancellor to succeed Professor Cara Aitchison, who retires at the end of 2023. Accountable to the Chair and Board of Governors, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing inspirational, visible and effective strategic leadership across the University. They will work with the Executive Group and all 1,600 academic and professional services staff to develop and implement Strategy 2030, which will establish Cardiff Met as a distinctive, progressive, high-performing university. The new Vice-Chancellor will lead the enhancement of academic performance, ensure an outstanding student experience, and facilitate the continued growth of the applied research and innovation portfolio. They will also be expected to oversee the successful delivery of Campus 2030, pursue an ambitious internationalisation agenda, and continue to nurture Cardiff Met’s many partnerships with government, industry, and the wider community.
The appointee will be an engaging, empowering, and developmental leader, who is also a highly influential ambassador. They will build trusted relationships with external and internal stakeholders, and ensure that the University’s culture, people, systems, and processes are all supportive of Cardiff Met’s ambition to become a top 50 UK university by 2030.
