The opportunity
The University's Marketing & External Relations department is responsible for raising the profile and actively promoting Cardiff Met locally, nationally and internationally. We deliver strategic communications, brand, marketing and student recruitment activities to ensure a consistent One Cardiff Met approach across all internal and external activity that aligns with the University’s values, behaviours and strategic objectives. We are a forward thinking, innovative and creative professional department with extensive experience across all areas and a commitment to developing individuals and ensuring maximum impact is gained from all marketing and external relations activities.
As a Web Content Officer you will play a key role in the ongoing maintenance and development of the current Cardiff Met website and in doing so, contribute to its long-term strategic development.
With particular focus on key projects aligned to student recruitment, the role will be hands-on. You will work alongside marketing and web team colleagues and liaise with professional service colleagues across the University to establish requirements and lead on the development a variety of content to deliver creative solutions across the website. You will champion best practice for content creation and ensure web pages are created, published and managed within agreed guidelines; adhering to accessibility requirements.
You will be a creative thinker with a passion for digital and web, where an understanding of the user journey and the end user experience will be central to your work. You will have experience of generating content, writing for the web, with an understanding of SEO best practice and accessibility. Technically, you will have experience of working with CMS platforms, but have the ability to understand, write and edit HTML code. You will also be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.
What you’ll do – key duties
Work with the Marketing Manager and Senior Web Development Officer on the redevelopment of existing key web pages and subsites aligned to student recruitment and the wider student experience. Work with wider stakeholders to identify gaps in content and make recommendations as appropriate in line with the wider user journey. Support on the creation of appropriate content where required.
Work with the Marketing Team to establish requirements for the creation of bespoke campaign landing pages that support the promotion undergraduate, postgraduate and research study at Cardiff Met. In doing so, you will support the marketing team in the creation of appropriate and accessible content, with particular focus on ensuring course pages and campaign landing pages are optimised effectively.
Work with the Marketing Manager and web team on the redevelopment and update of agreed priority areas of the website. You will work with stakeholders across the University to gather requirements, bring a creative and solution focused approach to the conversation, with particular emphasis on championing a best practice approach. You will ensure content and pages are created, published, and managed within agreed guidelines and adhere to accessibility requirements.
What you’ll bring – essential experience & strengths
You will have experience of understanding and mapping user journeys to website and page development, with experience of SEO and implementing best practice across websites.
You will be creative, solutions focused and have a passion for web. You should have experience of content creation for digital channels, but with particular emphasis on web, where you will also have experience of working with Web Content Management Systems. An understanding of HTML code is essential as you will be expected to be hands-on in the development of pages.
What you’ll have - essential qualifications
Degree or relevant professional qualifications in Digital Marketing, Content, Web or related Digital Media discipline.
