Role Summary:
The Department of Applied Psychology at Cardiff Metropolitan University is looking to make a number of strategic appointments to support planned changes to its undergraduate provision and to support and enhance its developing research and innovation portfolio.
In particular, we are looking to appoint someone who can help develop students' understanding of how criminal and forensic psychology can be applied in a variety of contexts from a range of perspectives, including social, developmental and cognitive. The post holder will demonstrate a firm commitment to all aspects of learning and teaching, especially being able to support students to develop their skills and confidence, in particular as a personal tutor to all levels of undergraduate provision. The successful candidate will also be able to show how they will adopt a range of teaching and learning strategies to enhance students understanding of the topic and develop their digital literacy, through the use of blended learning.
The post holder will contribute to modules at all levels of the undergraduate programme, and will help supervise students on placements in forensic contexts, and will support and contribute to postgraduate provision.
The successful candidate will be supported in their teaching and research, and will have a developing research profile that is complementary to work within the department focusing on, amongst other areas, interventions and support for offenders, and crime and mental health. They will also be able to support workshops and other departmental activities, and will be encouraged and supported to develop their research interests.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver teaching sessions as required in the support of students.
Support research and outreach activities as required to support departmental objectives including supervising postgraduate research students.
Teaching and learning support
Design teaching material and deliver across a range of modules and within a subject
area.
Use appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods.
Supervise student projects, and/or e.g. field trips and volunteering and work
placements.
Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement.
Contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material.
Set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students.
Research and scholarship
Support the development of research objectives, projects and proposals.
Participate in individual and / or collaborative research projects.
Support the identification of sources of funding and contribute to the process of
securing funds.
Apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching, research and appropriate
external activities.
Write or contribute to publications or disseminate research findings using other
appropriate media.
Make presentations at conferences or exhibit work in other appropriate events.

Routinely communicate complex and conceptual ideas.

Participate in and help develop internal and external networks for the benefit of Cardiff
Metropolitan University in the areas of teaching, research and innovation.

and make proposals on how this should be achieved.

Work environment
Within the context of Cardiff Metropolitan University's H&S policy, depending on area

Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop
teaching, learning support, and research.

Essential Criteria
Education and Qualifications
A good honours degree and / or equivalent professional qualification.
PhD or other doctoral award in a relevant criminal / forensic subject area.
Knowledge
A good level of knowledge relevant to the subject and professional area.
Evidence of undertaking continuous professional development (CPD).
A sound understanding of learning and teaching
A sound understanding of research and scholarship in applied settings
Knowledge of criminal / forensic psychology
Knowledge of qualitative and / or quantitative research methods
Skills and Abilities Relating to Role
Ability to develop teaching and/or research programmes and the provision of learning support
Ability to design teaching and learning materials, and to employ appropriate assessment methods for taught modules
Ability to contribute to undergraduate taught pathways in forensic / criminal psychology
Ability to take responsibility for a number of key areas such as module leader, and research supervision at undergraduate level.
Ability to support the development of research objectives, projects or proposals.
Ability to employ appropriate methods for disseminating research findings, in particular for peer-reviewed journals.
Ability to contribute to the achievement of the School strategic priorities and the development of other school and departmental activities.
