The opportunity
The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is one of Europe’s leading government funded collaborative programmes helping businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity using expertise, skills and resources from a UK knowledge base. The mKTP is being led by staff from the Project Management Group (PMG) in Cardiff School of Management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting a collaborative Management Knowledge Transfer Partnership (mKTP) for a fixed term of 24 months between MM Engineered Solutions Limited (company partner) and Cardiff Metropolitan University.
The Company: MM Engineered Solutions Limited (T/A MM Engineering)
MM Engineering is a specialist defence engineering company that design, manufacture and install high quality blast and flood defence solutions across the UK and export internationally. The company is based in a 20,000 sq ft factory in Port Talbot, Wales, UK.
Flood defence is at the core of the company's product portfolio. Using a team of industry experts and leading engineers, MME designs and creates products of the highest quality to protect customers’ assets against the risk of flooding faced by typical utility assets, such as electricity substations and water pumping stations.
The company's flood defence products can also be used to protect a range of other assets -- all in the B2B market sector -- including but not limited to various community schemes such as, publicly-funded flood defence projects protecting areas of towns and cities.
Role Summary:
The role is to help MM Engineering (MME) change its management processes and organisational culture to scale the business to continue to grow and meet increasing customer demands and position MME to achieve its 5 years post-project profit targets and strategic aims.
MME’s vision for the future has three stages that are linked to stages 2, 3 & 4 of the mKTP workplan:
Firstly, to lead a systems improvement strategy across several key product development areas, while significantly increasing capacity for R&D and innovation and in-house empowerment and upskilling for management and existing staff. This will be achieved by working collaboratively with project teams to co-develop and implement a capability model to meet MME’s strategic aims.
Secondly, to improve management strategy planning, improved company- wide product-based process planning, articulating a scaling-up plan/expansion strategy and the development of an automation integration plan. It is planned that this will be accomplished through the co-creation of bespoke models (agile-driven project management office (a-PMO) and integrated material requirements planning (i-MRP) for MME.
Thirdly, to create headroom that will allow the company to develop new products, enter new markets and continue to grow, by embedding tailored a-PMO and i-MRP models for continuous process improvement and standardisation, and adaptive product development life cycle and review.
This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to work with one of Wales’ leaders in flood defence designs, manufacturing and installation, with the support and expertise of a multi-disciplinary team from Cardiff School of Management, Cardiff Metropolitan University.
