The Opportunity
Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences is a recognised centre of excellence in the UK and has established a national and international reputation for the quality of its academic and research work in the areas of sport and health sciences. Based across the Cyncoed and Llandaff campuses, we provide a broad range of vocationally focused academic programmes and pride ourselves on good student feedback and excellent graduate employability. Many of our programmes are professionally accredited to meet the requirements of the sport and healthcare professions and we engage closely with industry to provide consultancy services and professional development programmes. Our School also delivers a thriving research culture, with over 100 PhD students across a variety of disciplines. You will be an HCPC registered forensic psychologist with experience of providing doctoral level supervision and supporting students/trainees through to qualification. You’ll also be an enthusiastic, friendly and ethical professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will also demonstrate, through your experience, a commitment to improving and providing an excellent student experience. We expect you to have an established or promising research profile in the field of practitioner forensic psychology and have contributed to policy and practice development. You will also have experience of providing practitioner teaching and training and be able to nurture students and trainees to develop their skills in this area.
To be successful you will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the requirements of the regulatory body (Health and Care Professions Council, HCPC) requirements for practitioner psychologists. You will have a commitment to and vision for the development of practitioner psychology training and be able to develop and maintain strategic relationships to enable this. You will have demonstrated excellence in practice, research or innovation that has been recognised to a national level with the drive and capability of developing this to an international level. You will have extensive experience of providing compassionate pastoral support, be able to inspire students to perform. You will also understand the requirements of the profession and be able to identify, address and respond to incidents of poor practice/poor performance.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
You will be required to make a significant contribution to the delivery of our taught portfolio, specifically contributing to the PG Dip Practitioner Forensic Psychology. Enthusiastic about student-centred pedagogy, you will contribute to education delivery, including programme/module management as required. You will also make a significant contribution to employability, and professional engagement with relevant internal and external organisations, at a regional, national and international level.
You will be expected to contribute to the research profile of the department and to meet the qualitative and quantitative requirements for submission to the next Research Excellence Framework.
What we are looking for - Experience & Strengths
An in-depth knowledge of specialist subject and professional area.
An in-depth understanding of pedagogy/research/enterprise and scholarly activity.
Ability to design, develop and deliver a range of practitioner psychology programmes.
Ability to review programme design on a regular basis to ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory body and academic regulations and to make alterations where appropriate.
Ability to contribute to the achievement of the School Development Plan and the institutions strategic planning processes.
Ability to develop research objectives, prepare proposals, carry out independent research, referee and contribute to peer assessment.
Ability to identify opportunities for strategic development/improvement e.g. research projects, new courses, consultancy.
Ability to identify (through the analysis of appropriate management information) areas requiring improved performance e.g. student numbers, student satisfaction.
Experience of HE teaching or equivalent.
Experience of engaging in pedagogic and practitioner research.
What we are looking for - Essential Qualifications
A good honours degree
Doctoral qualification (or equivalent, including HCPC registration as a forensic psychologist)
Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Recognition scheme, within agreed timescales (as soon as is practicably possible and definitely within three years of commencement of employment).
